ExpiryFinder Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 18, 2026

ExpiryFinder helps you find where the expiration, best-before, use-by or manufacturing date is printed on a product's packaging. This policy explains what the app collects and why. It applies to the ExpiryFinder iOS app and to our servers at expiryfinder.com.

Summary

Information we process

Camera. The app uses the camera to scan barcodes and, if you choose, to take a photo. Barcodes are recognized on your device. Camera access is only used for these features.

Photos and tips you submit. When you contribute, the photo you selected, the position of the marker you place, any note you type, and the product barcode are uploaded to our servers and are publicly shown to other people who scan the same product. Please don't include personal information in contributed photos or text.

Anonymous identifier. On first use, the app generates a random identifier and stores it on your device. It is sent with requests so we can rate-limit contributions, remember your "helpful" votes, and let you block contributors. It is not linked to your identity, and we do not use it to track you across other apps or websites.

Activity. We store the barcodes you look up, and votes, reports, or blocks you make, associated with the anonymous identifier.

Product information. To show a product name, our servers may query public product databases (Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts, Open Products Facts) using the barcode. The app does not contact these services directly. Product information is used under the Open Database License (ODbL); see the Attribution section below.

How we use information

Sharing

We don't sell your data. Content you submit is public by design. We use service providers for hosting and storage (Cloudflare) and query public product databases as described above.

Retention and storage

Content moderation

Users can report content and block contributors. We review reports and remove content that violates our guidelines. ExpiryFinder has zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users, and abusive contributors may be blocked.

Children

ExpiryFinder is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices

You can use ExpiryFinder without creating an account. To request removal of content you contributed, email us at support@expiryfinder.com with the product barcode or a description, and we will remove it.

Attribution

Product information is sourced from Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts, and Open Products Facts, and is used under the Open Database License (ODbL).

Changes

We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
